Well spoken, June.

I can't say I'm more optimistic than you. But we did manage to raise of couple of alert kids who are now in their early twenties, sensitive people who read and are aware. Maybe we were the last of a breed, but good child rearing still happens in some places. We had good resources and my wife is a disabilities counselor. She spotted our son's slight writing disability early, and we got help to correct it. He's now arguably a better writer than I am. We didn't have a TV in the house when they were young. Our living room is wall-to-wall books. They're both readers. Our girl has expressed gratitude that we kept her away from media until she was older. She just got a 178 on her LSAT. I'll stop bragging now. They get it.
