My dad's company built the first Arecibo feed (the thing that hangs in the middle and sends and receives signals from the dish). As a boy of 10, I went down there with him and the rest of the family to monitor the progress of the installation. It was brand new, the dish not even installed yet, as was the Dorado Beach Hotel, where we stayed.
